Our understanding of how the Universe works has grown rapidly in the past few decades, but if you are keen on physics, you are probably more excited by what we dont yet know. Our researchers are pushing the boundaries in fields like gravitational waves, quantum information and particle physics, and working with the worlds most advanced scientific instruments, including the Large Hadron Collider, the LIGO gravitational wave detector, the Murchison Widefield Array low frequency radio telescope and the Australian Synchrotron.
Postgraduate and higher courses usually use academic prerequisites, degree equivalence and English-language requirements.
Postgraduate entry
An undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in a directly related discipline with a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of at least 65% (or equivalent) in the best 50 points of appropriate discipline studies at third year,
Quantum mechanics studies at both second- and third-year university level.
Studies in electrodynamics and statistical physics at third-year level is also recommended.
English requirement
IELTS 6.5, no band below 6TOEFL iBT 79, no band below 20PTE Academic 58-64, no band below 50Cambridge C1 Advanced / C2 Proficiency 176-184, no band below 169
If the student's current English result is below the direct-entry requirement, consider the university's recognised English language pathway or ELICOS package. When the student successfully completes the approved pathway at the required level, the university may accept that pathway for English entry without requiring a new IELTS, TOEFL or PTE result. Always confirm exclusions for professional registration courses and the offer conditions.
